Dan Atkinson is a jazz trombonist out of Rochester, NY, who is currently a senior at the Eastman School of Music. He is pursuing a bachelor's degree in jazz performance under the tutelage of Marshall Gilkes. He also doubles as a Valve trombonist.
While primarily a jazz musician, Dan also plays his fair share of jazz fusion, funk, and pop, along with many other genres. He has been playing Trombone for over 10 years, and attended the Honeoye Falls-Lima High School, where he studied under Mark Borden and Ken Kreuzer. At Eastman, he has had the pleasure to work with world-renowned faculty members such as Dave Rivello, Christine Jensen, Bob Sneider, Dariusz Terefenko, and more.
Dan currently leads his own septet, the Dan Atkinson Small band (with whom he has released his latest album) as well as his own trio and quartet. He is also a member of The Swooners, the Silver Arrow Band, and USP. He also frequently plays all around Rochester with various jazz combos, and runs a jam session at Strombolis on East Avenue, 5:15-7:00 every Thursday.
